The Sun Hydraulics CAIGLFN (CAIGLFN) is an atmospherically vented counterbalance valve designed to control overrunning loads efficiently and reliably. This product, also known as a motion control or over center valve, includes a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port to the load while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve manages flow from port to port. The pilot assist feature at the designated port reduces the effective setting of the relief valve according to the pilot ratio, enhancing operational precision without being affected by backpressure at any port due to its atmospheric referencing. This model is engineered for robust performance with a capacity of up to 22 gpm (83 L/min) and can handle maximum recommended load pressures up to 5000 psi (345 bar). It offers a pilot ratio of 3:1, ensuring stable machine operation even under varying load conditions. The CAIGLFN can be directly installed into cavities machined in actuator housings which allows for added protection and circuit stiffness. For optimal performance, settings should be adjusted at least 1.3 times higher than the maximum load-induced pressure. This model also exhibits minimal leakage at reseat with less than 5 drops/min., ensuring efficient operation and maintaining system integrity over time.

Atmospherically-vented counterbalance valves with pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2. Pilot assist at port 3 lowers the effective setting of the relief valve at a rate determined by the pilot ratio. Backpressure at port 2 does not affect the valve setting because the spring chamber is atmospherically referenced.
