The Sun Hydraulics CBBHCCN (CBBHCCN) is a counterbalance valve designed to control overrunning loads effectively. This valve type, also known as a motion control or over center valve, includes a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port to the load port. It features a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve that manages flow from port to port. The pilot assist at a specific port reduces the relief valve's effective setting according to a predetermined pilot ratio. This model is engineered with an adjustment mechanism where turning the adjustment clockwise decreases the setting and releases the load, with full clockwise settings being less than 350 psi (24 bar). It is important to note that backpressure at one of the ports adds to the effective relief setting in a ratio of 1 plus the pilot ratio times the backpressure. Counterbalance valves with pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2. Pilot assist at port 3 lowers the effective setting of the relief valve at a rate determined by the pilot ratio.

  • Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
