The Sun Hydraulics CBEBCIN (CBEBCIN) is a sophisticated counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads effectively in hydraulic systems. This valve integrates a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port 2 to the load port 1, alongside a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve that regulates flow from port 1 to port 2. The inclusion of pilot assist at port 3 significantly reduces the effective setting of the relief valve according to the pilot ratio. The CBEBCIN model is engineered for precision and reliability, boasting features like an adjustment mechanism that allows settings to be decreased by turning clockwise, which helps in releasing the load smoothly. It also has a maximum setting limit of less than 200 psi (14 bar) when fully adjusted clockwise. Backpressure at port 2 influences the effective relief setting, adding to it in proportion to the pilot ratio times the backpressure. This model is particularly noted for its robust reseat capability, exceeding 85% of set pressure under standard settings, ensuring minimal leakage and reliable operation under varying pressures. For applications involving phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are recommended due to their compatibility and durability against such mediums. Sun Hydraulics has designed this model with versatility in mind; it can be directly installed into machined cavities within actuator housings which enhances protection and circuit stiffness. The CBEBCIN also features two options for check valve cracking pressures catering to different operational needs – a standard 25 psi (1.7 bar) and an alternative lower pressure if actuator cavitation is a concern. This valve is equipped with positive seals between all ports and shares interchangeability across all three-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges within the same frame size. Additionally, it employs Sun's floating style construction which prevents internal parts binding caused by installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge setups. With these advanced features and configurations, the Sun Hydraulics CBEBCIN counterbalance valve stands out as an essential component for enhancing hydraulic system stability and performance.

Counterbalance valves with pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2. Pilot assist at port 3 lowers the effective setting of the relief valve at a rate determined by the pilot ratio.

Other names for this valve include motion control valve and over center valve.

  • Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
  • Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
  • Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
  • Backpressure at port 2 adds to the effective relief setting at a ratio of 1 plus the pilot ratio times the backpressure.
  • Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
  • Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
  • This valve has positive seals between all ports.
  • All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
