The Sun Hydraulics CBHGLJV (CBHGLJV) is a sophisticated counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads efficiently in hydraulic systems. This model incorporates pilot assist to control the flow effectively from the load port to the directional valve port, enhancing operational stability and safety. The valve features a check valve that permits free flow from port 2 to port 1, while a pilot-assisted relief valve manages the flow in the opposite direction. The pilot assist at port 3 adjusts the relief valve setting based on the pilot ratio, optimizing performance. The CBHGLJV model is engineered for precision and reliability, supporting maximum load pressures of up to 3850 psi with a maximum setting reaching up to 5000 psi. It offers a capacity of 20 gpm (80 L/min) and utilizes a T19A cavity within a Series 4 framework. The design includes Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding, ensuring consistent performance even under varied installation conditions or cavity/cartridge machining discrepancies. This model also features dual check valve cracking pressures for flexibility according to specific application needs, with options for either 25 psi or 4 psi based on actuator sensitivity concerns. The robust design ensures that backpressure at port 2 contributes positively to the effective relief setting, maintaining operational integrity and reliability. Ideal for direct installation into machined actuator housings, this counterbalance cartridge enhances protection and circuit stiffness without compromising on ease of maintenance or adjustability. With precise factory settings and stringent testing protocols including leakage tests at reseat conditions, Sun Hydraulics ensures that each CBHGLJV unit delivers optimal performance consistently across various hydraulic applications.

Counterbalance valves with pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2. Pilot assist at port 3 lowers the effective setting of the relief valve at a rate determined by the pilot ratio.
Other names for this valve include motion control valve and over center valve.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Restrictive valves have no relief capacity other than as a thermal relief.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- Backpressure at port 2 adds to the effective relief setting at a ratio of 1 plus the pilot ratio times the backpressure.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- This valve has positive seals between all ports.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
