The Sun Hydraulics CBIBLHV (CBIBLHV) is a counterbalance valve designed for controlling overrunning loads effectively in hydraulic systems. This valve integrates a check valve allowing free flow from port 2 to port 1 and a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve that manages flow from port 1 to port 2. The pilot assist feature at port 3 reduces the relief valve setting based on the pilot ratio, enhancing control and stability in various applications. The CBIBLHV is engineered with precision to ensure reliability and performance under different conditions. It should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure, with an adjustment mechanism that is straightforward—turning clockwise decreases the setting to release load, with a full clockwise setting of less than 200 psi (14 bar). Additionally, backpressure at port 2 influences the effective relief setting, adding to it in proportion to the pilot ratio. This model also boasts an impressive capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min) and can handle a maximum recommended load pressure at its highest setting of 3075 psi (215 bar), with a maximum setting reaching up to 4000 psi (280 bar). The valve's reseat efficiency exceeds 85% of the set pressure under standard settings, ensuring minimal leakage and maintaining system integrity. Sun Hydraulics has equipped the CBIBLHV with features like positive seals between all ports and two available check valve cracking pressures for different operational needs. The durable construction includes Sun’s floating style design which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This model is interchangeable with other three-port counterbalance cartridges within the same frame size, making it versatile for various hydraulic circuit designs. Its robust design ensures that it can be directly installed into actuator housings for enhanced protection and circuit stiffness.

Counterbalance valves with pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting, pilot-assisted relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2. Pilot assist at port 3 lowers the effective setting of the relief valve at a rate determined by the pilot ratio.
Other names for this valve include motion control valve and over center valve.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- Backpressure at port 2 adds to the effective relief setting at a ratio of 1 plus the pilot ratio times the backpressure.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- This valve has positive seals between all ports.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
