The Sun Hydraulics CCCALBV (CCCALBV) is a specialized counterbalance valve designed to manage the control of overrunning loads in hydraulic systems without the use of pilot assist. The valve features a check valve that permits free flow from port 2 to port 1, while a direct-acting relief valve regulates the flow in the reverse direction. Notably, this model has been internally modified to nullify the pilot assist area, eliminating any connection to port 3 and featuring a pilot ratio of zero. This design choice enhances stability at the cost of efficiency. The CCCALBV is engineered for settings at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure, with an adjustment mechanism that allows for precise control over load release by turning the adjustment clockwise. The maximum setting achievable on this valve is less than 200 psi (14 bar), with a full clockwise setting reducing this further. It's also built to handle backpressure at port 2, which directly adds to the relief setting, influencing valve performance. This model is capable of handling up to 15 gpm (60 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It features standard factory pressure settings established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min). The durability and reliability are further enhanced by Sun Hydraulics' floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. For environments prone to corrosion, specific configurations with external stainless steel components or external zinc-nickel plated components are available, ensuring longevity and resilience in harsh conditions. The CCCALBV fits seamlessly into T11A cavities and maintains interchangeability with other 3-port counterbalance cartridges within its frame size, offering flexibility across various hydraulic applications without compromising on performance or stability.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
