The Sun Hydraulics CCEACAV (CCEACAV) is a meticulously engineered counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads efficiently without pilot assist. This valve features a check valve that permits free flow from directional valve port 2 to load port 1, while a direct-acting relief valve manages flow from port 1 to port 2. It is specifically modified from pilot-assisted counterbalance valves with the pilot assist area internally nullified, eliminating the connection to port 3. The CCEACAV operates with a zero pilot ratio, which enhances machine stability at the cost of efficiency. It should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure to ensure optimal performance, with full clockwise adjustment resulting in less than 200 psi (14 bar). The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This model is capable of handling up to 30 gpm (120 L/min) and can withstand a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), with factory pressure settings established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min). The valve also features an adjustment mechanism allowing up to 3.75 turns counterclockwise to increase the setting, and can reseat at more than 85% of the set pressure under standard conditions. For installations requiring additional protection and circuit stiffness, Sun counterbalance cartridges like the CCEACAV can be directly installed into cavities machined into an actuator housing. It supports two check valve cracking pressures; however, the default recommended setting is typically sufficient unless actuator cavitation is an issue. This model's robust design and versatile capabilities make it suitable for various applications requiring precise load control without external pilot assistance.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
