The Sun Hydraulics CCEALBV (CCEALBV) is a meticulously engineered counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads effectively in hydraulic systems. This valve facilitates free flow from the directional valve port 2 to the load port 1 via a check valve, while a direct-acting relief valve modulates flow from port 1 to port 2. Notably, this model does not feature pilot assist, as the pilot assist area has been internally nullified with no connection to port 3, which sets it apart from pilot-assisted versions. The CCEALBV valve is specifically tailored for applications where machine stability is crucial, achieved by its zero pilot ratio at the expense of efficiency. It operates with a maximum setting of 4000 psi (280 bar) and can handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar) of operating pressure. The design includes features like Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal parts binding that can occur due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. With a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), this valve is suitable for high-flow scenarios and ensures robust performance with minimal leakage at reseat — less than 5 drops/min (0.3 cc/min). It also supports various installation configurations as it can be directly installed into machined cavities in actuator housings. This not only provides added protection but also enhances circuit stiffness. For maintenance and adjustments, the CCEALBV offers straightforward options: turning the adjustment clockwise decreases the setting and releases load, with full clockwise settings reducing pressure below 200 psi (14 bar). Additionally, factory pressure settings are established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min), ensuring precision and reliability right out of the box. This counterbalance valve exemplifies Sun Hydraulics' commitment to high-quality hydraulic components designed for durability and optimal performance in demanding industrial applications.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
