The Sun Hydraulics CCGACHN (CCGACHN) is a robust counterbalance valve designed without pilot assist, specifically tailored to manage overrunning loads effectively. This model features a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port 2 to the load port 1, while a direct-acting relief valve regulates the flow in the opposite direction. Notably, this valve should be adjusted to at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure to ensure optimal performance. The CCGACHN is engineered with internal modifications that nullify the pilot assist area, eliminating any connection to port 3 and simplifying its operation by achieving stability at the cost of efficiency with a pilot ratio of zero. The backpressure at port 2 directly adds to the relief setting of the valve, which is important for applications where system stability is crucial. Moreover, this model ensures high reliability and performance consistency with a reseat capability exceeding 85% of set pressure under standard settings. Designed for versatility and ease of installation, all Sun Hydraulics’ 3-port counterbalance cartridges are physically interchangeable within the same frame size, sharing identical flow paths and cavities. The CCGACHN can also be directly installed into an actuator housing, enhancing protection and circuit stiffness. It supports up to 60 gpm/240 L/min capacity and can handle maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi/350 bar. Additionally, this model incorporates Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes potential internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. With options for two check valve cracking pressures, it allows customization based on specific application needs regarding actuator cavitation concerns. The standard factory settings are established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min), ensuring consistent and reliable operational characteristics right out-of-the-box.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
