The Sun Hydraulics CCGALAV (CCGALAV) is a counterbalance valve designed without pilot assist, specifically engineered to manage overrunning loads in hydraulic systems. Featuring a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port 2 to load port 1, it incorporates a direct-acting relief valve that modulates flow from port 1 back to port 2. This model is particularly noted for its zero pilot ratio, which enhances machine stability though it may reduce efficiency. The CCGALAV is set to handle maximum settings up to 4000 psi (280 bar) and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for high-pressure applications. Notably, the valve's internal design negates the need for a connection to port 3 and handles backpressure at port 2 by directly adding it to the relief setting. This model also features Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal part binding caused by installation torque or machining variations of the cavity/cartridge. The CCGALAV supports a maximum flow capacity of 60 gpm (240 L/min), and its factory pressure settings are established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min). It is designed for easy installation directly into machined actuator housings, which enhances protection and circuit stiffness. This valve model also offers two check valve cracking pressures, with a standard option of 25 psi (1.7 bar), providing robust performance against rapid flow reversals. The CCGALAV’s structure ensures that any reseat exceeds 85% of the set pressure under standard settings, promoting reliable operation and performance consistency across various hydraulic applications.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
