The Sun Hydraulics CCGALBV (CCGALBV) is a counterbalance valve designed without pilot assist, specifically engineered to manage overrunning loads effectively. This valve features a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port 2 to load port 1, while a direct-acting relief valve manages flow from port 1 to port 2. The counterbalance valves are recommended to be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure, with adjustments made by turning clockwise to decrease the setting and release the load. The CCGALBV model is distinguished by its modification from pilot-assisted counterbalance valves; it has nullified the pilot assist area internally and does not connect to port 3. It features a zero pilot ratio which enhances machine stability at the cost of efficiency. The design allows backpressure at port 2 to add directly to the relief setting of the valve, promoting precise control over hydraulic functions. This model is capable of handling a maximum flow capacity of 60 gpm (240 L/min) and can withstand a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its settings can be factory established at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min), with reseat capabilities exceeding 85% of set pressure under standard conditions. Additionally, this model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The CCGALBV valve also offers versatility in installation as it can be directly installed into cavities machined into an actuator housing, enhancing protection and circuit stiffness. With two available check valve cracking pressures, users can select based on specific application needs—typically the default 25 psi unless actuator cavitation concerns necessitate otherwise. This robust design ensures reliable performance across various hydraulic applications where efficient load control is critical.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
