The Sun Hydraulics CCGARIV (CCGARIV) is a counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads in hydraulic systems effectively. This model does not include pilot assist, which has been internally nullified, meaning there is no connection to port 3. It features a check valve that permits free flow from the directional valve port 2 to the load port 1 and a direct-acting relief valve that regulates flow from port 1 to port 2. The CCGARIV should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure, with full clockwise settings being less than 200 psi (14 bar). This valve is specially modified for applications where stability is prioritized over efficiency, as indicated by its zero pilot ratio. It boasts a maximum setting of 4000 psi (280 bar) and can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The design includes Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes potential internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. For installations requiring specific flow requirements, the CCGARIV can accommodate up to 60 gpm (240 L/min). It also offers two check valve cracking pressures; the standard being 25 psi (1.7 bar), suitable for most applications unless actuator cavitation is a concern. The robust construction includes features like an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in. (4 mm), and an installation torque of between 150 – 160 lbf ft (203 – 217 Nm), ensuring secure and reliable operation. Additionally, this model's design allows for direct installation into actuator housings which enhances protection and circuit stiffness, making it an adaptable solution for various hydraulic control systems without the need for external pilot lines.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.

  • Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
  • Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
  • Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
  • These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
  • Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
  • Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
  • Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
  • All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
  • Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
