The Sun Hydraulics CCGGCDV (CCGGCDV) is a high-performance counterbalance valve designed for hydraulic systems requiring robust load control without pilot assist. This model is engineered to manage overrunning loads efficiently, featuring a check valve that permits free flow from port 2 to port 1 and a direct-acting relief valve that controls flow in the opposite direction. The CCGGCDV is set to operate at a minimum of 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure, with a full clockwise setting of less than 200 psi (14 bar). Notably, this valve model has a pilot ratio of zero, enhancing machine stability at the expense of efficiency. The valve's design includes modifications for enhanced performance and reliability, such as nullifying the pilot assist area internally and eliminating connections to port 3. It also incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding—a common issue caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The CCGGCDV can be directly installed into actuator housings, thanks to its compatibility with the T17A cavity and its robust construction that supports up to 60 gpm (240 L/min) flow capacity. Additionally, this model offers two check valve cracking pressures to cater to different operational needs, recommending the use of a 25 psi (1.7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern. With maximum operating pressures reaching up to 5000 psi (350 bar), and factory pressure settings established at very low flow rates (2 in³/min or 30 cc/min), the CCGGCDV ensures precise control and stability in demanding applications while maintaining leakage rates as low as 5 drops/min (0.3 cc/min) at reseat conditions.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
