The Sun Hydraulics CCGGCJV (CCGGCJV) is designed for hydraulic systems requiring robust load control. This counterbalance valve is engineered without pilot assist, featuring a zero pilot ratio which enhances machine stability at the expense of efficiency. The valve operates by using a check valve that permits free flow from port 2 to the load at port 1, while a direct-acting relief valve manages flow in the opposite direction. It is specifically tailored for applications where overrunning loads need precise management without the influence of pilot pressure. The CCGGCJV model is set to handle maximum settings up to 5000 psi (350 bar), with a factory-established pressure setting at a flow rate of 2 in³/min (30 cc/min). It boasts a capacity of 60 gpm (240 L/min), ensuring suitability for high-flow requirements. Notably, this model utilizes Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal parts binding, which could result from excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. For installation, the CCGGCJV can be directly integrated into an actuator housing cavity, enhancing protection and circuit stiffness. It provides two check valve cracking pressures; however, the standard 25 psi (1.7 bar) check is typically recommended unless actuator cavitation is a concern. This model also features an adjustment mechanism that allows settings to be decreased by turning clockwise, with full clockwise settings reducing pressure below 200 psi (14 bar). This valve’s design ensures that backpressure at port 2 directly adds to the relief setting, making it crucial for users to consider system backpressure when configuring the valve settings. Additionally, it supports maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and exhibits minimal leakage at reseat conditions—less than 5 drops/min (0.3 cc/min), maintaining operational integrity and efficiency in demanding hydraulic applications.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
