The Sun Hydraulics CCIALHV (CCIALHV) is a robust counterbalance valve designed to manage overrunning loads effectively in hydraulic systems. This model operates without pilot assist, featuring a check valve that permits free flow from port 2 to port 1 while a direct-acting relief valve modulates flow in the opposite direction. The CCIALHV is engineered for stability over efficiency, with a zero pilot ratio that enhances machine stability at the potential cost of operational efficiency. This valve should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load-induced pressure to ensure proper functionality, with full clockwise adjustment resulting in settings less than 200 psi (14 bar). Notably, backpressure at port 2 directly adds to the relief setting of this valve. The design incorporates Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding and potential damage due to excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), the CCIALHV is suitable for high-capacity applications. It can handle maximum recommended load pressures up to 3075 psi (215 bar) at its maximum setting of 4000 psi (280 bar). For installations, it fits into the T19A cavity and conforms to series 4 specifications. The model also features two check valve cracking pressures options—25 psi being standard unless actuator cavitation is a concern. Its design ensures that reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when standard settings are applied, although lower settings may result in reduced reseat percentages. This versatility along with its physical interchangeability with other 3-port counterbalance cartridges makes it an adaptable choice for various hydraulic circuit designs.

Counterbalance valves without pilot assist are meant to control an overrunning load. The check valve allows free flow from the directional valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) while a direct-acting relief valve controls flow from port 1 to port 2.
- Counterbalance valves should be set at least 1.3 times the maximum load induced pressure.
- Turn adjustment clockwise to decrease setting and release load.
- Full clockwise setting is less than 200 psi (14 bar).
- These valves are modified versions of our pilot assisted counterbalance valves. The pilot assist area has been nullified internally. There is no connection to port 3.
- Backpressure at port 2 is directly additive to the relief setting of the valve.
- Lower pilot ratios (pilot gain) promote machine stability. This valve has a pilot ratio of zero. Stability is gained at the expense of efficiency.
- Reseat exceeds 85% of set pressure when the valve is standard set. Settings lower than the standard set pressure may result in lower reseat percentages.
- All 3-port counterbalance, load control, and pilot-to-open check cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Sun counterbalance cartridges can be installed directly into a cavity machined in an actuator housing for added protection and improved stiffness in the circuit.
- Two check valve cracking pressures are available. Use the 25 psi (1,7 bar) check unless actuator cavitation is a concern.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
