The Sun Hydraulics CKCHSCV (CKCHSCV) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems requiring reliable load holding and hose break protection. It features a non-sealed pilot, steel seat, and is vented to enhance performance stability by referencing the spring chamber to the vent port 3. This configuration allows free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the opposite direction. The valve's operation is contingent on external pilot pressure at port 3, which needs to be slightly higher than the pressure at the vent to prevent closure. The proportional pressure reducing characteristic of this valve ensures that pressure at port 1 is approximately 75% of that at port 2, providing an additional safety margin against over-pressurization. This model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations of the cavity/cartridge. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity up to 15 gpm (60 L/min), it suits various high-pressure applications. The valve offers extremely low leakage rates; however, if leakage occurs due to load drifting, it likely indicates seat damage from contamination, necessitating valve replacement. The CKCHSCV uses Viton seals for enhanced chemical resistance and has an installation torque requirement between 30 - 35 lbf ft (41 - 47 Nm). Weighing just about .20 lb (0.10 kg), it is lightweight yet robust enough for demanding applications. Notably, this model should not be used in motion control applications but rather in scenarios where positive locking of pressurized loads is required. For new systems or applications requiring similar functionality, Sun Hydraulics recommends considering valves from their CVV family.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
