The Sun Hydraulics CKCHSEV (CKCHSEV) is a sophisticated pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems requiring reliable load-holding and hose break protection capabilities. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to the load port 1, while effectively blocking flow in the reverse direction. It operates using a non-sealed pilot with a steel seat, and features a vented configuration that references the spring chamber to the vent port 3, ensuring insensitivity to pressure at port 2. The CKCHSEV offers a proportional pressure reducing characteristic, limiting the pressure at port 1 to approximately 75% of that at port 2 under normal operations. It requires pilot pressure as low as 15 psi above vent pressure to prevent closure, which can be crucial in applications where precise control over valve operation is necessary. The standard unsealed pilot design allows for purging of air trapped within the pilot line, enhancing system efficiency and safety. Designed with Sun's floating style construction, this valve minimizes potential internal binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations—enhancing its reliability and performance longevity. With its capacity rated at 15 gpm (60 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), the CKCHSEV is well-suited for heavy-duty applications. The valve installation requires specific torque settings between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm) to ensure optimal performance. This particular model is not interchangeable with other three-port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to its unique pilot-vent configuration, making it a specialized solution for specific hydraulic circuit designs. Additionally, it offers extremely low leakage rates; however, if load drift occurs due to valve issues typically related to seat damage by contamination, replacement is recommended to maintain system integrity.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
