The Sun Hydraulics CKCHVCV (CKCHVCV) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed with a non-sealed pilot, steel seat, and venting capabilities. This valve enables free flow from valve port 2 to load port 1 while blocking the opposite direction. External pilot pressure at port 3 opens the valve from port 1 to port 2, with the required pilot pressure being directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The design features a positive seal between ports 2 and 3 and utilizes Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This model has a capacity of up to 15 gpm/60 L/min and can handle maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi/350 bar. It also boasts extremely low leakage rates, crucial for applications requiring precise hydraulic control and minimal fluid loss. The valve's installation requires specific torque settings (30-35 lbf ft/41-47 Nm) and has a hex size for the valve at 7/8 in./22.2 mm. The CKCHVCV is particularly useful in systems where hose break protection is necessary, as it prevents loads from drifting and locks pressurized loads securely. It’s also noted for its application in environments where trapped air in the pilot line needs purging, thanks to its standard unsealed pilot design. However, it's not suitable for motion control applications; instead, counterbalance valves are recommended for such needs. Moreover, this model is not interchangeable with other 3-port pilot-to-open check valves due to its unique pilot-vent configuration, making it essential to select the correct model for specific system requirements. The CKCHVCV is recommended as a service item only for existing installations; new applications should consider using valves from Sun Hydraulics' CVV family which might offer enhanced features or compatibility.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
