The Sun Hydraulics CKEEVEV (CKEEVEV) is a highly specialized hydraulic valve designed for specific applications where hose break protection and prevention of load drift are critical. This pilot-to-open check valve features a sealed pilot to minimize cross-port leakage and incorporates a Delrin seat suitable for medium pressure systems that may encounter dirty conditions. The valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction, ensuring that pressurized loads are positively locked. The operation of the CKEEVEV is contingent on the pressure at an external pilot port which, when engaged, allows opening from port 1 to port 2. The required pilot pressure to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1, making it insensitive to pressure changes at port 2 due to its spring chamber referencing the vent port 3. This configuration also provides a positive seal between ports 2 and 3. With a maximum operating pressure of up to 2500 psi (175 bar) and a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), this valve is robust enough for various demanding applications. However, it should be noted that this model has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic which limits the pressure at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2, enhancing safety and control under different operating conditions. It’s important for users needing motion control applications to consider using counterbalance valves instead since CKEEVEV cartridges are primarily locking valves not intended for motion control. Additionally, if there is any indication of load drift due to valve issues, such as contamination leading to seat damage, replacement of the valve is recommended as it exhibits extremely low leakage characteristics under normal circumstances. The Sun Hydraulics CKEEVEV employs floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding – an essential feature for maintaining operational reliability even under varying installation torques or cavity/cartridge machining discrepancies.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a Delrin seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • The Delrin seat is suitable for dirty, medium pressure systems that are not subjected to high flows or temperatures.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
