The Sun Hydraulics CKEFSEN (CKEFSEN) is a highly specialized hydraulic valve designed for specific applications where control and prevention of flow reversal are critical. This pilot-to-open check valve features a unique configuration that allows free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the opposite direction. It operates with a sealed pilot to avoid cross-port leakage and uses a steel seat for durability. The valve's functionality is enhanced by its vented design, referencing the spring chamber to vent port 3, which makes it insensitive to pressure at port 2. The CKEFSEN valve is particularly effective in applications requiring hose break protection, prevention of load drifting, and locking of pressurized loads under controlled conditions. It incorporates Sun Hydraulics' floating style construction which minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The valve's performance specifications include a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It also features an extremely low leakage rate, crucial for maintaining system integrity and efficiency. This model is designed with a T2A cavity and belongs to Series 2, indicating specific design characteristics such as pilot ratio and installation requirements within Sun Hydraulics' product range. With a pilot ratio of 3:1, it ensures that the pilot pressure needed to open the valve is efficiently proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve's hex size is 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm) with an installation torque between 45 – 50 lbf.ft (61 – 68 Nm), and it weighs approximately .50 lb (0.25 kg). Suitable primarily as a service item for existing systems, new applications are recommended to consider valves from Sun Hydraulics' CVV family for enhanced performance and compatibility.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
