The Sun Hydraulics CKEFVEN (CKEFVEN) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems, featuring a sealed pilot and a steel seat with venting capabilities. This valve permits free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction. The functionality of the CKEFVEN is enhanced by its ability to open from port 1 to port 2 when pressure is applied at the external pilot port, with the required pilot pressure being directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. Notably, this valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 due to its spring chamber referencing vent port 3. The CKEFVEN offers several critical functionalities, including hose break protection, prevention of load drifting, and positive locking of pressurized loads. Its design ensures extremely low leakage; however, if leakage occurs due to load drift, it typically indicates seat damage from contamination, necessitating valve replacement. The valve's construction incorporates Sun’s floating style which minimizes internal parts binding—a common issue arising from excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this model is robust for various applications. It has a pilot ratio of 3:1 and features minimal valve leakage at higher fluid viscosities (110 SUS /24 cSt). The CKEFVEN's hex size for installation is 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm), and it requires an installation torque between 45 - 50 lbf·ft (61 - 68 Nm). Weighing just about .50 lb (0.25 kg), it also supports Viton seal kits for enhanced durability and performance under varying conditions. This model should be considered primarily as a service item in existing applications; for new applications, Sun Hydraulics recommends valves from their CVV family due to advancements in design and functionality tailored to modern needs.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
