The Sun Hydraulics CKEHVEV (CKEHVEV) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic applications requiring controlled flow and load holding capabilities. This valve allows free flow from port 2 to the load at port 1 and blocks flow in the reverse direction, ensuring efficient operation in systems that need to prevent load drift or hose breakage. The valve's operation is contingent on external pilot pressure which opens it from port 1 to port 2, with the required pilot pressure being directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. Notably, this model features a non-sealed pilot with a positive seal between ports 2 and 3, enhancing its reliability and performance. The CKEHVEV operates with extremely low leakage, crucial for maintaining system integrity and preventing contamination damage which could necessitate valve replacement. Its design incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal binding due to installation variances or cavity/cartridge machining discrepancies. The valve is specified with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and can handle flows up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), making it suitable for a wide range of hydraulic applications. For installations, the valve uses a T2A cavity and requires an installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). It has a model weight of .50 lb (0.25 kg) and utilizes Viton seals for enhanced durability under various operating conditions. Importantly, this model should be considered as a service item only for existing setups; new systems should utilize valves from Sun Hydraulics' CVV family to ensure optimal compatibility and performance. This specific configuration of the CKEHVEV makes it distinct in its application, not physically interchangeable with other three-port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to its unique pilot-vent configuration.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
