The Sun Hydraulics CKIEVBN (CKIEVBN) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems requiring reliable load-holding and hose break protection. This valve allows free flow from port 2 to the load port 1 and restricts flow in the reverse direction. It features a sealed pilot to prevent cross-port leakage and uses a Delrin seat suitable for medium pressure systems that may contain contaminants, although it is not recommended for high flow or temperature applications. The CKIEVBN operates with a maximum capacity of 120 gpm/480 L/min and can handle up to 2500 psi/175 bar of operating pressure. The valve's pilot ratio is set at 3:1, meaning the pilot pressure required to open the valve is three times the pressure at the seat area. This ensures that pilot pressure needed is proportional to the load pressure at port 1, enhancing stability and control. Moreover, this model incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The valve's design provides extremely low leakage characteristics; however, if leakage occurs it likely indicates seat damage from contamination, necessitating replacement. The installation requires a hex size of 1-5/8 in./41.3 mm and should be torqued between 350-375 lbf ft/474-508 Nm. Weighing in at 2.80 lb/1.30 kg, this model also offers an option for Viton seals through kit number 990019006. Overall, the CKIEVBN is engineered for applications where precise control over backflow and leakage prevention are critical under moderate pressures and potential contamination environments. It excels in providing hose break protection and positively locking pressurized loads but should be selected with care for specific system requirements given its specialized configuration and operational characteristics.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a Delrin seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • The Delrin seat is suitable for dirty, medium pressure systems that are not subjected to high flows or temperatures.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
