The Sun Hydraulics CKIEVEN (CKIEVEN) is a 3-port pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic circuits needing reliable load holding and hose break protection. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to port 1 while blocking flow in the opposite direction, ensuring that pressurized loads are positively locked. It features a sealed pilot to prevent cross-port leakage, making it suitable for applications where such leakage is undesirable. The Delrin seat within the valve caters to systems operating under medium pressure and can handle environments with some degree of contamination without high flows or temperatures. The CKIEVEN operates with a pilot ratio of 3:1, meaning the pressure needed at the external pilot port to open the valve is three times less than the load pressure at port 1. This valve can handle a maximum operating pressure of 2500 psi (175 bar) and has a flow capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min). Its design includes Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. Notably, this model also incorporates features for minimizing leakage, with maximum valve leakage specified at less than one drop per minute at 110 SUS (24 cSt). The physical attributes include a hex size of 1-5/8 inches (41.3 mm) and an installation torque range between 350 \u2013 375 lbf ft (474 \u2013 508 Nm), weighing approximately 2.80 lb (1.30 kg). This specific configuration makes it non-interchangeable with other similar valves due to its unique pilot-vent setup, emphasizing its specialized application in hydraulic systems requiring precise control over load handling and safety mechanisms against hose failures or sudden load drops.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a Delrin seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • The Delrin seat is suitable for dirty, medium pressure systems that are not subjected to high flows or temperatures.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
