The Sun Hydraulics CKIEVFN (CKIEVFN) is a three-port, pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems requiring reliable load holding and hose break protection. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to the load at port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction. It operates with a sealed pilot to prevent cross-port leakage and features a Delrin seat suitable for medium pressure systems that are not exposed to high flows or temperatures. The valve’s operation is unaffected by pressure at port 2 due to its spring chamber referencing vent port 3, ensuring stability and consistent performance. The CKIEVFN valve requires a pilot pressure proportional to the load pressure at port 1 to open, with an effective pilot ratio of approximately 3:1. This means that the area of the pilot piston is three times that of the check poppet seat area, facilitating efficient operation under varying pressures. The maximum operating pressure for this model is rated at 2500 psi (175 bar), and it can handle flows up to 120 gpm (480 L/min). Installation specifications include a hex size of 1-5/8 inches (41.3 mm) and an installation torque between 350 -375 lbf ft (474 -508 Nm). Notably, this valve is engineered with Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. It also features extremely low leakage characteristics; however, if leakage occurs due to load drift, it typically indicates seat damage from contamination, suggesting replacement of the valve. The CKIEVFN model is specifically recommended as a service item for existing applications; new applications should consider valves from Sun Hydraulics’ CVV family instead. This model’s unique features make it particularly effective in preventing load drift and positively locking pressurized loads without the risk of cross-port leakage, making it an essential component in various hydraulic circuit designs where such capabilities are crucial.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a Delrin seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

• There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
• These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
• This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
• Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
• Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
• Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
• Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
• The Delrin seat is suitable for dirty, medium pressure systems that are not subjected to high flows or temperatures.
• Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
• This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
