The Sun Hydraulics CKIFVDN (CKIFVDN) is a high-performance, pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic applications requiring reliable load holding and hose break protection. It features a unique construction that allows free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking reverse flow, ensuring secure locking of pressurized loads. The valve operates with a pilot pressure that is proportional to the load pressure at port 1, which needs to be slightly higher than the pressure at the vent to prevent the valve from closing. This feature makes it particularly effective in preventing load drift and enhancing system safety. The CKIFVDN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes potential internal part binding caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge. This design detail contributes to its robust performance and reliability even under challenging operating conditions. The valve offers extremely low leakage rates; however, if leakage occurs due to load drift, it typically indicates seat damage from contamination, requiring valve replacement. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 120 gpm (480 L/min), this valve is suitable for various demanding applications. It features a T19A cavity and Series 4 configuration, with additional specifications including a pilot ratio of 3:1 and maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) being minimal at approximately one drop per minute. Installation requires specific torque settings between 350 -375 lbf ft (474 -508 Nm), ensuring secure fitting and optimal performance. Overall, the Sun Hydraulics CKIFVDN is engineered for applications where precise hydraulic flow control and reliability are paramount, providing effective solutions for systems requiring hose break protection and positive load locking without cross-port leakage.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
