The Sun Hydraulics CKIHVCN (CKIHVCN) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic systems, offering advanced control by allowing free flow from valve port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction. This valve operates with a non-sealed pilot and a steel seat, featuring a vented design that references the spring chamber to vent port 3, ensuring pressure insensitivity at port 2. The CKIHVCN incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. Key specifications include a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), a flow capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min), and an extremely low leakage rate, which is crucial for maintaining system integrity and performance. The valve's pilot ratio is set at 3:1, meaning the pressure needed to open the valve is proportional to three times the load pressure at port 1. Additionally, this model has a specific installation torque requirement ranging from 350 to 375 lbf ft (474 to 508 Nm) and weighs approximately 2.80 lbs (1.30 kg). The CKIHVCN is particularly effective in applications requiring hose break protection and prevention of load drifting, as well as in scenarios where pressurized loads need to be positively locked. It also features a standard unsealed pilot which allows any air trapped in the pilot line to be purged effectively from the circuit, enhancing operational reliability. This model is recommended primarily as a service item in existing applications; for new systems, Sun Hydraulics advises using valves from their CVV family due to advancements in design and functionality tailored to contemporary hydraulic system requirements.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
