The Sun Hydraulics CKIHVFN (CKIHVFN) is a high-performance pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic applications requiring reliable load holding and hose break protection. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction, ensuring secure operation in various hydraulic systems. The valve operates with a non-sealed pilot, steel seat, and vented configuration, enhancing its durability and performance under varying conditions. The CKIHVFN features a proportional pressure-reducing characteristic that limits the pressure at port 1 to approximately 75% of that at port 2, providing an added layer of safety and control. It requires a pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (approximately 1 bar) above the vent pressure to prevent closure, allowing for flexible operation parameters. Notably, this model is engineered with Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min), this valve is suited for high-pressure applications across various hydraulic systems. It also features extremely low leakage rates, which are crucial for maintaining system integrity and efficiency. The CKIHVFN is specifically designed not to be interchangeable physically with other 3-port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to its unique pilot-vent configuration, ensuring specific application suitability. This model employs Viton seals for enhanced chemical resistance and durability under harsh conditions. Additionally, the valve's design allows trapped air in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit through its standard unsealed pilot setup, thus maintaining operational stability and reliability. Ideal for service replacements within existing systems rather than new applications which should use CVV family valves according to manufacturer recommendations, the CKIHVFN serves as a robust solution for critical load-holding tasks where precision and reliability are paramount.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
