The Sun Hydraulics CKIHVFV (CKIHVFV) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed for hydraulic applications requiring controlled flow direction and load holding. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to load port 1 and prevents reverse flow, ensuring system integrity and safety in operations. It features a non-sealed pilot with a steel seat, enhancing durability and performance under varying pressures. The external pilot port activation allows the valve to open from port 1 to port 2, with the required pilot pressure being directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. This model is particularly noted for its insensitivity to pressure at port 2 due to its spring chamber referencing vent port 3, providing consistent operation regardless of fluctuating pressures. It also incorporates a positive seal between ports 2 and 3, minimizing leakage risks and maintaining system efficiency. The CKIHVFV is equipped with a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure at port 1 to approximately 75% of the pressure at port 2, contributing to system stability. Designed with Sun's floating style construction, this valve minimizes internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations, ensuring reliable long-term operation. The CKIHVFV offers low leakage levels; however, if load drift occurs due to the valve, it indicates potential seat damage from contamination which would require valve replacement. With a capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min) and maximum operating pressures reaching up to 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve is suitable for high-demand applications. Its design also includes hose break protection features that prevent loads from drifting and ensure pressurized loads are positively locked. Despite its robust capabilities for preventing reverse flow under high pressures, it should be noted that for motion control applications involving counterbalance valves are recommended over pilot-to-open check cartridges which are primarily locking valves not designed for modulating motion control.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a non-sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Standard unsealed pilot allows air trapped in the pilot line to be purged from the circuit.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
