The Sun Hydraulics DCDCXNN (DCDCXNN) is a three-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve, which is spring-centered and features a 6-port configuration. This pilot-to-shift valve offers various spool options that influence its capacity, primarily dependent on the flow forces generated by different pressure and flow conditions. Each of the ports, including the X and Y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6), can handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The valve's performance varies with spool configuration due to how flow forces impact the opening of passages; configurations that open passages while spring centering are particularly affected. The DCDCXNN incorporates hardened spool and sleeve for enhanced durability, consistent performance with low leakage rates, and excellent wear characteristics. It also features Sun's floating style construction which minimizes potential internal binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The product specifications include a flow capacity ranging from 11 to 30 gpm (38 to 120 L/min), a minimum pilot pressure requirement of 150 psi (10.5 bar) for valve shifting, and maximum operating pressure support of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Leakage per path is meticulously detailed in the technical data for precision. Additional key specifications include a maximum valve leakage at specific conditions (110 SUS/24 cSt), pilot volume displacement, as well as installation dimensions such as hex size and required torque for installation. The model weighs approximately 0.80 lb (0.35 kg) and utilizes Viton seals for enhanced performance under various conditions. This robust construction and versatile configuration make the DCDCXNN suitable for demanding applications requiring precise hydraulic control with reliable operation under high-pressure conditions.

Three-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-centered, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
