The Sun Hydraulics DCDFXCN (DCDFXCN) is a high-performance, two-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve, characterized by its spring-offset and 6-port configuration. This valve can be customized with one of nine different spool options according to specific application needs. Each spool type affects the valve's capacity, which is influenced by flow forces that are proportional to flow and pressure drop. These forces typically resist the opening of a passage, with configurations that open passages as they spring center being most susceptible to incomplete shifting if flow forces exceed the centering spring force. The DCDFXCN operates efficiently under a supply pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar), including its pilot ports (port 5 and port 6), which are positively sealed from the work ports to prevent leakage. The valve’s performance capabilities range between 11 to 30 gpm (38 to 120 L/min), with a minimum pilot pressure requirement of 150 psi (10.5 bar) needed to shift the valve. It showcases excellent wear characteristics and low spool leakage rates thanks to its hardened spool and sleeve. Moreover, this model incorporates Sun’s floating style construction designed to minimize internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are recommended; however, these should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they could damage the seals. The DCDFXCN also features a maximum valve leakage rate at 110 SUS (24 cSt) of about 2 in³/min at 1000 psi (30 cc/min at 70 bar). The model weighs approximately 0.80 lb (0.35 kg) and requires an installation torque of between 45 - 50 lbf·ft (61 -68 Nm).

Two-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-offset, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of 9 different spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
