The Sun Hydraulics DCECXRN (DCECXRN) is a three-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve, designed for high-performance hydraulic systems. This spring-centered, 6-port directional valve offers a robust configuration tailored to various spool types, which directly influences its capacity and operational efficiency. It operates with a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) across all ports including the pilot ports (port 5 and port 6), ensuring versatile application in demanding environments. Key features of the DCECXRN include hardened spool and sleeve for reduced leakage and enhanced wear characteristics, along with Sun's floating style construction that minimizes internal parts binding. This design consideration is crucial for maintaining reliability and performance even under variable installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining discrepancies. The valve is also equipped with EPDM seals suitable for phosphate ester fluids, while exposure to petroleum-based substances should be avoided to prevent seal damage. The valve’s technical specifications include a flow capacity range of 25 to 100 gpm (95 to 380 L/min), requiring a minimum pilot pressure of 125 psi (9 bar) to shift. Leakage performance is optimized at 2 in³/min at 1000 psi (30 cc/min at 70 bar). For installation, the valve features a hex size of 1-1/4 inches (31.8 mm) and an installation torque between 150 to 160 lbf·ft (203 to 217 Nm). The model weighs approximately 1.80 lbs (0.80 kg), indicating its substantial build suited for industrial applications where hydraulic efficiency and reliability are paramount.

Three-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-centered, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
