The Sun Hydraulics DCEFXAV (DCEFXAV) is a high-performance, two-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve designed for robust hydraulic system applications. This spring-offset, 6-port directional valve offers a range of configurations through nine different spool options, catering to diverse operational requirements and enhancing system versatility. The valve operates with a maximum pressure capacity of 5000 psi (350 bar) across all ports, including the pilot ports (port 5 and port 6), ensuring consistent performance under high-pressure conditions. The DCEFXAV features hardened spool and sleeve components that not only reduce spool leakage but also significantly improve wear characteristics, extending the operational life and reliability of the valve. It incorporates Sun's proprietary floating style construction which minimizes internal part binding—a common issue in valves caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a flow capacity ranging between 25 to 100 gpm (95 to 380 L/min), the valve is capable of handling substantial fluid volumes, making it suitable for various industrial hydraulic systems. The minimum pilot pressure required to shift the valve is relatively low at 125 psi (9 bar), which facilitates easier control and responsiveness. Additionally, the maximum leakage rate is maintained at a minimal level of 2 in³/min at 1000 psi (30 cc/min at 70 bar), ensuring efficient operations with minimal fluid loss. The design details extend to ease of installation as well, with a specified hex size for the valve at 1¼ inches (31.8 mm) and an installation torque range between 150 to 160 lbf·ft (203 to 217 Nm). These specifications underscore the DCEFXAV’s utility in demanding applications where precision and durability are paramount.

Two-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-offset, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of 9 different spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
