The Sun Hydraulics DCFCXAV (DCFCXAV) is a versatile and robust three-position, 4-way directional cartridge valve. It features a spring-centered mechanism and six ports, including pilot ports (port 5 and port 6), which are positively sealed from the work ports. This configuration enhances the valve's utility in various hydraulic applications by ensuring reliable operation under different conditions. Each port can withstand pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for high-pressure systems. The DCFCXAV valve offers a wide range of capacities, from 50 to 200 gpm (200 to 760 L/min), depending on the spool type specified. The choice of spool affects the valve\u2019s performance due to flow forces, which are proportional to flow and pressure drop. These forces can resist passage opening, with configurations that open passages as they spring center being most susceptible to incomplete shifting if these forces exceed the spring force. For enhanced durability and consistent performance, the valve incorporates a hardened spool and sleeve which provide low leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics. It also uses Sun\u2019s floating style construction to minimize internal parts binding that could result from excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This model is specifically configured with EPDM seals for compatibility with phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it can damage the seals. The DCFCXAV is designed for ease of installation with a hex size of 1-5/8 inches (41.3 mm) and an installation torque range of 350-375 lbf ft (474-508 Nm). Weighing at approximately 3.80 lb (1.75 kg), it offers a substantial yet manageable heft for secure placement within hydraulic systems.

Three-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-centered, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
