The Sun Hydraulics DCFCXBN (DCFCXBN) is a versatile and robust directional cartridge valve designed for high-pressure hydraulic systems. This model is a three-position, 4-way directional valve that features spring-centered control and six ports, including pilot ports (port 5 and port 6) which are positively sealed from the work ports. The DCFCXBN can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for demanding applications. The valve's performance varies with different spool configurations due to flow forces, which are proportional to the flow rate and pressure drop across the valve. These forces can influence the shift behavior of the valve, particularly in configurations where spool movement opens passages as it returns to center. To accommodate various system requirements, the DCFCXBN can be configured with a range of spool options, each designed to optimize performance under specific conditions. Featuring hardened spool and sleeve components, the DCFCXBN ensures low leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics, enhancing both reliability and longevity. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction which helps minimize internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. With a flow capacity ranging from 50 to 200 gpm (200 to 760 L/min) and requiring a minimum pilot pressure of 125 psi (9 bar) to shift, this model is engineered for efficiency and responsiveness in hydraulic circuit operations. It also includes EPDM seals configured for use with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals must not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they can cause damage. Overall, the Sun Hydraulics DCFCXBN provides powerful performance tailored for high-pressure applications requiring precise control and durability in hydraulic systems.

Three-position, 4-way directional cartridges are spring-centered, 6-port directional valves that can be configured from a choice of spool options. The supply port is port 3 and all ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar). Capacity for these pilot-to-shift valves is dependent on the spool type specified.
- All ports will accept 5000 psi (350 bar), including the x and y pilot ports (port 5 and port 6).
- The reason for the different capacities, or performance limits, for the different spool configurations are flow forces. Flow forces are proportional to flow and pressure drop. Typically, they resist the opening of a passage. Spool configurations that open passages as they spring center are the most susceptible. If the flow forces due to the flow and pressure conditions exceed the centering spring force the valve may not shift completely. Higher flows may be used at lower pressures.
- Leakage listed in technical data is for each path.
- The pilot ports, 5 and 6, are positively sealed from the work ports.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Hardened spool and sleeve provide consistent and low spool leakage rates and excellent wear characteristics.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
