The Sun Hydraulics DMDADAN828 (DMDADAN828) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve, designed for direct-acting operation with a balanced spool directional control. This valve is specifically engineered to handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). The DMDADAN828 features spools that are closed during the transition between two positions, optimizing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times, particularly suitable for pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. This model incorporates a wet armature design, where the working fluid surrounds the armature. This design consideration is crucial as it allows the valve to operate without minimum hydraulic pressure and makes it sensitive to prolonged energization which could affect fluid integrity in certain conditions. It also has interchangeable coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products, enhancing its versatility and ease of maintenance. The manual override feature in this valve, available in models with D or L control, is designed for temporary actuation with a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles. Additionally, it employs EPDM seals suitable for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are susceptible to damage when exposed to petroleum-based fluids. With features like Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding from installation stresses or cavity/cartridge machining variations, the DMDADAN828 ensures reliable and efficient operation in various hydraulic applications. The valve also supports a switching frequency up to 15,000 cycles per hour and features rapid response times typically around 50 ms. This model's robust construction and thoughtful engineering make it an excellent choice for demanding directional control applications requiring high precision and durability.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
