The Sun Hydraulics DMDADNN212N (DMDADNN212N) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve that is direct-acting with a balanced spool design. It is specifically engineered for high-performance applications with its fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling up to 5000 psi (350 bar). This valve features closed transitions between spools B and R, enhancing performance by ensuring faster and more consistent response times, particularly suitable for pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. The DMDADNN212N operates without requiring a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it versatile for various system conditions. It includes manual override options with the D or L control, designed primarily for temporary actuation. The durability of these manual controls is notable, with a mechanical life expectancy around 7,000 cycles. Additionally, this model employs EPDM seals optimized for use with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals must avoid exposure to petroleum-based substances to prevent damage. Another key feature of the DMDADNN212N is its wet armature design which allows the working fluid to surround the armature. This design consideration is crucial as prolonged energization of the coil could lead to fluid degradation at high temperatures. The valve supports a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and incorporates interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products. These coils can be mounted in either direction on the tube. Furthermore, Sun Hydraulics has integrated their floating style construction into this model to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge setup. With a swift typical response time of 50 ms and robust switching frequency capabilities up to 15,000 cycles/hr, the DMDADNN212N stands out as an efficient solution for demanding directional control tasks in hydraulic systems.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
