The Sun Hydraulics DMDADNN728 (DMDADNN728) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for robust hydraulic control. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve features a fatigue rating of 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for demanding applications. The valve's spools, B and R, are closed during the transition between positions to enhance performance limits while sacrificing some capacity. This feature is particularly beneficial in pilot control applications where the quick and consistent response times are critical and capacity is less of a concern. The DMDADNN728 requires no minimum hydraulic pressure to operate, which allows for versatile use in various hydraulic systems. It includes manual override options with a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles, specifically designed for temporary actuation. The valve is equipped with EPDM seals compatible with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals must avoid exposure to petroleum-based fluids as they can cause damage. Additionally, this model utilizes a wet armature design where the working fluid surrounds the armature. This design consideration is crucial as prolonged coil energization can heat the fluid and potentially lead to breakdowns or varnish formation in certain fluid types like water-glycol mixtures. Interchangeability of coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products adds to the flexibility of this model, allowing coils to be mounted in either direction on the tube. The construction incorporates Sun's floating style to minimize internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and swift response times typically around 50 ms, along with a robust switching frequency up to 15,000 cycles/hr, the DMDADNN728 offers reliable performance for sophisticated hydraulic systems requiring precise control and rapid actuation.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
