The Sun Hydraulics DMDADRV914 (DMDADRV914) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for robust hydraulic system applications. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve is engineered to operate without minimum hydraulic pressure, enhancing its versatility in various operational contexts. Its standout feature includes a fatigue rating for 5000 psi (350 bar) service, ensuring durability and reliability under high-pressure conditions. The DMDADRV914 incorporates a closed transition between Spools B and R, optimizing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times, particularly useful in pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. The valve features interchangeable coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products, offering flexibility and ease of maintenance. These coils can be mounted on the tube in either direction to accommodate different system configurations. Additionally, the valve's manual override mechanism is designed with a detent for temporary actuation and has a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles. For systems using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are available; however, these seals must not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they could be damaged. A wet armature design characterizes the DMDADRV914 where the working fluid surrounds the armature exposed to coil-generated heat. This aspect needs careful consideration as prolonged energization can lead to fluid breakdowns affecting valve functionality. The construction also minimizes internal parts binding through its floating style design which compensates for excessive installation torque and cavity/cartridge machining variations. With a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and rapid response time typically around 50 ms, this valve ensures efficient fluid control in hydraulic systems demanding precise direction changes under varying pressure conditions.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
