The Sun Hydraulics DMDALAN228 (DMDALAN228) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve is designed for robust and efficient operation in hydraulic systems. It features a fatigue rating of 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for high-pressure applications. The valve's spools, designated B and R, are closed during the transition between positions to ensure faster and more consistent response times, particularly when used as pilot controls where capacity is not a critical factor. Equipped with either D or L control options, the DMDALAN228 includes a manual override with a detent mechanism intended for temporary actuation. The mechanical life expectancy of this manual control assembly is about 7,000 cycles. The valve also uses EPDM seals configured specifically for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are susceptible to damage if exposed to petroleum-based fluids. Another notable feature of the DMDALAN228 is its wet armature design. In this design, the working fluid surrounds the armature which can heat up if the coil remains energized over extended periods. This may lead to breakdowns in certain types of hydraulic fluids like water-glycol mixtures at elevated temperatures. For versatility in installation and maintenance, the coils of this model are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted in either direction on the tube. Additionally, Sun Hydraulics incorporates floating style construction into this model to minimize internal parts binding due to installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The cartridge operates efficiently with a flow capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min) at maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its rapid response time (typically 50 ms), combined with its robust construction and interchangeable components makes it an excellent choice for demanding hydraulic applications requiring precise control and reliability.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
