The Sun Hydraulics DMDALAV548 (DMDALAV548) is a high-performance, solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for precise hydraulic control. It features a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve mechanism that ensures reliable operation without the need for minimum hydraulic pressure. This model is particularly noted for its robust construction, including a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The DMDALAV548 excels in applications requiring closed transitions between spool positions, such as in pilot controls where capacity is less critical but speed and consistency of response are paramount. Its manual override options, equipped with a detent mechanism, are intended for temporary actuation only and offer a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. This valve is also compatible with EPDM seals specifically for use with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are susceptible to damage when exposed to petroleum-based fluids. With a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and rapid typical response times of 50 ms, the DMDALAV548 is suitable for systems where fast switching and control accuracy are necessary. The valve also supports interchangeable coils from other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and features Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding. Additionally, the wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature which can be significant in applications where the coil remains energized over extended periods. This model's versatility extends to its installation flexibility—coils can be mounted in either direction on the tube—and it maintains compatibility across various hydraulic systems configurations while ensuring minimal leakage and efficient operation under high-frequency switching conditions up to 15,000 cycles per hour.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

• The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
• Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
• This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
• On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
• Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
• This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
• Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
