The Sun Hydraulics DMDALBV (DMDALBV) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for precise control in hydraulic systems. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve is notable for its robust construction and reliability in demanding applications. Engineered with a fatigue rating suitable for 5000 psi (350 bar) service, the DMDALBV features closed transitions between Spools B and R, enhancing performance by ensuring faster and more consistent response times, particularly suitable for pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. The valve operates without requiring a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it versatile across various operational scenarios. It includes manual override options with detent mechanisms intended for temporary actuation. The mechanical life expectancy of the manual control assembly stands at approximately 7,000 cycles. Specific configurations of this model use EPDM seals designed for compatibility with phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals must avoid exposure to petroleum-based substances to prevent damage. A wet armature design characterizes the DMDALBV; the working fluid envelops the armature which could be susceptible to heat during prolonged coil energization\u2014this aspect needs consideration when using certain fluids like water-glycol mixtures that might degrade under heat. The interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products offer flexibility in mounting orientations. Moreover, Sun Hydraulics incorporates a floating style construction in this valve to minimize potential internal binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a typical response time of 50 ms and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), alongside features like a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and switching frequency up to 15000 cycles/hr, the DMDALBV is an efficient solution tailored for high-end hydraulic applications requiring reliable directional control and swift actuation.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
