The Sun Hydraulics DMDALNV524 (DMDALNV524) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve that functions as a direct-acting, balanced spool directional control unit. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a typical response time of 50 ms, this valve is designed for precise and efficient operation. The DMDALNV524 features closed transitions between its two positions, Spools B and R, enhancing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times, especially suitable for pilot controls where capacity is less critical. This model does not require minimum hydraulic pressure to operate due to its direct actuation. It includes manual override capabilities with a detent mechanism designed for temporary actuation; however, this feature should be used cautiously as the mechanical life expectancy of the manual control assembly (D, L, and T types) is approximately 7,000 cycles. The valve’s wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature which could be subject to heat during prolonged coil energization—this aspect needs consideration when using specific fluids like water-glycol mixtures which may degrade under heat. Furthermore, the DMDALNV524 can handle up to 12 gpm (45 L/min) flow capacity and incorporates interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products. It also benefits from Sun’s floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to installation variances or excessive torque. For environments involving phosphate ester fluids, cartridges with EPDM seals are recommended while exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it damages the seals. This model’s robust build and versatile features make it suitable for various hydraulic applications requiring reliable directional control and swift response times.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

• The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
• Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
• This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
• On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
• Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
• This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
• Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
