The Sun Hydraulics DMDAMAV224 (DMDAMAV224) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for precise fluid control in hydraulic systems. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve boasts a robust design with a solenoid tube assembly that is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service, ensuring reliability and durability under high-pressure conditions. The valve features spools B and R which are closed during the transition between positions, enhancing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times ideal for pilot control applications where capacity is not a primary concern. Equipped with EPDM seals, the DMDAMAV224 is specifically configured for use with phosphate ester fluids; however, it should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as these can damage the seals. It incorporates a wet armature design where the working fluid surrounds the armature, potentially affecting performance if the coil remains energized for extended periods due to heat exposure which can degrade certain types of hydraulic fluids. This model also supports interchangeable coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and features a floating style construction that minimizes internal part binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. The manual override mechanism included in models with D or L control is designed for temporary actuation and has a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles. Technical specifications include a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), a flow capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min), and typical response times of around 50 ms. The valve also supports switching frequencies up to 15,000 cycles per hour and has minimal leakage rates at high pressures. For ease of installation and maintenance, it features standard dimensions such as a .75 inch (19 mm) solenoid tube diameter and requires an installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm).

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
