The Sun Hydraulics DMDAMAV248 (DMDAMAV248) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for robust and efficient hydraulic control. With a direct-acting, balanced spool configuration, this valve ensures reliable operation without the need for minimum hydraulic pressure. It is particularly effective in applications requiring precise control with fast response times, making it ideal for use as pilot controls where capacity is less critical but speed and consistency are paramount. The DMDAMAV248 features a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), which speaks to its durability and suitability for high-pressure tasks. The transition between the spool positions B and R is closed, enhancing performance by reducing capacity only where it does not affect functionality. This design choice contributes to the valve's faster and more consistent response times. Equipped with EPDM seals, the DMDAMAV248 is specifically configured for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it can damage the seals. The wet armature design of this model means that the working fluid surrounds the armature which may be a consideration in applications where the coil remains energized for extended periods. The valve also incorporates interchangeable coils from Sun Series 1 solenoid products that can be mounted in either direction on the tube. This flexibility along with its floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. With a maximum flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and typical response time of 50 ms, along with manual override capabilities, this versatile valve meets various operational demands effectively while ensuring longevity with an estimated mechanical life of approximately 7,000 cycles.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
