The Sun Hydraulics DMDAMAV848 (DMDAMAV848) is a high-performance, solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for precise control in hydraulic systems. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve operates without requiring a minimum hydraulic pressure, enhancing its responsiveness and reliability in various applications. It features a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly for services up to 5000 psi (350 bar), ensuring durability under high-pressure conditions. The valve's design includes closed transitions between spool positions B and R, which minimizes performance loss at higher limits while sacrificing some capacity\u2014a trade-off that benefits applications prioritizing speed and consistency over flow rate. Particularly useful as pilot controls, this characteristic ensures faster and more consistent response times. Additionally, the DMDAMAV848 incorporates manual override options with detent mechanisms intended for temporary actuation, supporting approximately 7,000 cycles mechanically. Equipped with EPDM seals, the DMDAMAV848 is compatible with phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based substances should be avoided to prevent seal damage. The wet armature design of the valve means that the working fluid surrounds the armature which can be susceptible to heat during prolonged energization\u2014important to consider in systems using heat-sensitive fluids like water-glycol mixtures. Interchangeability of coils with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products adds versatility to this model, allowing for easy maintenance and replacement. The construction also features Sun's floating style design which minimizes internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or machining variations of cavity/cartridge. With a maximum operating capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min) and rapid typical response time of 50 ms, the DMDAMAV848 is an efficient solution for advanced hydraulic system controls where precision and reliability are critical.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
