The Sun Hydraulics DMDAMNN814 (DMDAMNN814) is a high-performance solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for demanding hydraulic applications. This direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve features a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for high-pressure systems. The valve operates with no minimum hydraulic pressure required, enhancing its versatility in various hydraulic circuits. The DMDAMNN814 features closed transitions between its two positions (Spools B and R), which helps achieve faster and more consistent response times when used as pilot controls. This design choice leads to higher performance albeit at the cost of lower flow capacity, which is generally not a critical factor in pilot control applications. Additionally, the manual override options (D, L, and T controls) come with a detent mechanism designed for temporary actuation, supporting about 7,000 mechanical cycles. For environments using phosphate ester fluids, cartridges equipped with EPDM seals are recommended; however, these should not be exposed to petroleum-based fluids as they could damage the seals. The valve's wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature directly; this setup requires careful consideration of fluid type and operating duration as heat from prolonged coil energization can degrade certain fluids. This model also benefits from Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in the cavity/cartridge setup. With interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and a robust switching frequency capability of 15,000 cycles per hour, this valve is engineered for reliability and consistent performance across a wide range of industrial applications.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
