The Sun Hydraulics DMDAMPV514 (DMDAMPV514) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve, designed for direct-acting operation with a balanced spool directional control. This model is notable for its high-performance capabilities due to the closed transition between spools B and R, which enhances response times especially in applications requiring fast pilot controls. The valve operates without needing a minimum hydraulic pressure, making it versatile across various hydraulic systems. Constructed to handle maximum operating pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and a flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), this valve is robust and reliable for demanding applications. It features a wet armature design wherein the working fluid surrounds the armature, potentially affecting fluid properties under prolonged energization due to heat exposure. Users should note that EPDM seals in this model are specifically intended for phosphate ester fluids and may degrade if exposed to petroleum-based substances. The DMDAMPV514 also includes interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products, adding flexibility and ease of maintenance. The manual override feature provided in models with D or L control has a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles and requires minimal force for operation. Additionally, the floating style construction of the valve minimizes internal part binding risks caused by installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This valve's quick response time (typically 50 ms), combined with its ability to handle up to 15,000 switching cycles per hour, makes it an excellent choice for systems where reliability and efficiency are critical. With its compact size (.60 lb/0.30 kg) and specific design features such as manual override stroke of .10 in (2.5 mm) and solenoid tube diameter of .75 in (19 mm), the DMDAMPV514 provides an effective solution for controlled fluid direction in hydraulic circuits.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
