The Sun Hydraulics DMDASBN212 (DMDASBN212) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve that stands out for its direct-acting, balanced spool directional control capabilities. This model is specifically designed with a soft shift feature to minimize hydraulic shock during valve actuation, which is particularly important in applications sensitive to sudden changes in pressure or flow. However, it is noted that this soft shift feature does not provide precise timing control, making it less suitable for applications where exact timing is critical. In such cases, Sun Hydraulics recommends considering their electro-proportional valves instead. The DMDASBN212 offers a response time ranging between 150 ms to 300 ms depending on various factors such as flow rate, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity, and ambient temperature. To achieve consistent performance from the soft shift feature, it is necessary to maintain positive pressure at port 1. The valve includes a push-type manual override control but does not support other manual control options when configured with soft shift control. This model can be easily retrofitted with different manual controls in the field if required. Constructed for durability and performance under high-pressure conditions up to 5000 psi (350 bar), the solenoid tube assembly of this valve is fatigue rated for demanding applications. The DMDASBN212 uses EPDM seals suitable for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are vulnerable to damage when exposed to petroleum-based fluids. Featuring a wet armature design allows the working fluid to surround the armature which may affect performance if the coil remains energized over extended periods due to heat exposure. This model also incorporates Sun's floating style construction which helps prevent internal parts binding caused by excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. Additionally, the coil connector options available with this model can support up to IP69K environmental protection ratings.

  • The soft shift cartridge is interchangeable with the standard cartridge, however, the performance limits are lower.
  • The soft shift feature can greatly reduce shock due to valve actuation but should not be counted upon in applications where timing is critical. If you need accurate ramping or timing control, consider Sun's electro-proportional valves.
  • The soft shift feature results in significant increase in response time over Sun's standard solenoid. Response time is dependent on flow, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity and ambient temperature. Typical response time ranges from 150 ms to 300 ms.
  • For consistent soft shift performance, port 1 should be at a positive pressure.
