The Sun Hydraulics DMDASPN624 (DMDASPN624) is a solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for direct-acting, balanced spool directional control. Its unique soft shift feature moderates hydraulic shock during valve actuation, which is beneficial in reducing system shocks but is not recommended for use in applications where precise timing control is critical. For applications requiring exact ramping or timing, electroproportional valves are suggested instead. This model has a response time that varies between 150 ms to 300 ms depending on several factors including flow, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity, and ambient temperature. The soft shift performance requires port 1 to maintain positive pressure. Additionally, this valve incorporates a push-type manual override and although other manual controls are not compatible with the soft shift feature, they can be added in the field if necessary. Constructed with durability in mind, the solenoid tube assembly of the DMDASPN624 is fatigue rated for up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It features EPDM seals suitable for phosphate ester fluids; however, these seals are vulnerable to damage when exposed to petroleum-based fluids. The wet armature design means that heat generated by the coil affects the working fluid which could degrade certain fluid types over extended periods. The DMDASPN624 also boasts high efficiency due to its magnetic design which ensures reliable valve shifting with high spool actuating force per watt expended. For environmental protection options and further customization, various coil connector options and weatherized coils are available providing ratings up to IP69K. In terms of construction, Sun Hydraulics employs floating style construction within this model to minimize internal parts binding which could result from excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. This model supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and handles capacities up to 5 gpm (20 L/min), making it versatile for various hydraulic applications requiring robust performance and reliability.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The soft shift cartridge is interchangeable with the standard cartridge, however, the performance limits are lower.
  • The soft shift feature can greatly reduce shock due to valve actuation but should not be counted upon in applications where timing is critical. If you need accurate ramping or timing control, consider Sun's electro-proportional valves.
  • The soft shift feature results in significant increase in response time over Sun's standard solenoid. Response time is dependent on flow, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity and ambient temperature. Typical response time ranges from 150 ms to 300 ms.
  • For consistent soft shift performance, port 1 should be at a positive pressure.
  • This valve includes a push-type manual override control. Other manual control options such as T or D, cannot be ordered with the soft shift control but can be installed easily in the field. See Twist/Lock Manual Override link above for details. Please note: Manual override functionality is not compatible with weatherized coils.
  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • The solenoid's unique magnetic design results in a high efficiency solenoid, yielding high spool actuating force per Watt expended, leading to reliable valve shifting.
  • Coil connector options offer ratings up to IP69K. See individual coil product pages for details. Additional weatherized coils and kits are available for more complete environmental protection.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
